Digital Strategy
Early in Term 4, we announced our new Digital Strategy for 2026. Key points from this communication around mobile phones and smartwatches are below. Age-appropriate practices have been considered across the Senior School, recognising the wide developmental stages of the girls from Years 7-12.
Please be aware of our additional expectations for Year 7 students in 2026. Updates that apply to all girls in Years 7-12: - During before-school and after-school commitments, phones can remain in girls’ school bags (switched off).
- The Bay Café will no longer accept payment transactions by phone. It is returning to cash, debit card and student card payment only.
- No curriculum courses will require a student to have a mobile device in class. The girls’ laptops have a camera if needed.
-
For trips and tours, the need for a mobile phone will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Decisions will take into account the nature of the experience, and guidelines will be communicated to girls and families ahead of each trip to ensure clarity and understanding.
-
If a phone is confiscated during the school day, parents will receive an email from Student Wellbeing. Girls can collect their phones at the end of the school day. A repeated pattern of three phone confiscations will result in a lunchtime detention.
-
If parents would like support in managing their daughter's access to her mobile phone, the school can assist by keeping her phone at school. Parents can email the Student Wellbeing Centre reception to specify a release date.
- Where a student does have a mobile phone, parents are asked to ensure the device is appropriately insured in the event of loss or theft.
A small number of parents have asked about our ‘no smartwatch’ rule for 2026. This rule will remain in place. However, if your daughter has a life-threatening medical condition that requires her to wear a smartwatch, please provide a copy of her medical certificate to the respective Director of School by Wednesday 28 January 2026. Year 7 Mobile Phone Expectations - Year 7 girls are encouraged not to have a mobile phone.
-
Should parents choose for their daughter to have a phone, parents are asked to complete the Year 7 Mobile Phone Register Form detailing their daughter’s phone type and number early Term 1.
- Year 7 girls will be required to hand in their mobile phones to the Student Wellbeing Centre before homeroom. Phones can be collected after school. This practice will be reviewed for Semester 2.
- Girls will be reminded that Student Wellbeing opens at 8.00am and closes at 4.00pm. Phones not collected by 4.00pm will be kept overnight.
Years 8-12 Mobile Phone Expectations - Girls are required to store their phones in their lockers throughout the school day.
- Year 11 and 12 study lessons will be phone-free.

School Communications
SEQTA Engage and the School App are the two main ways of keeping abreast of your child's education journey at St Hilda's. If you have not downloaded these Apps, please click here for more information. If you already have the App, please ensure your ‘subscriptions’ are updated to reflect your child’s current year level and cocurricular activities for 2026.
To add subscriptions and turn on notifications, please go to the 'More' button located in the bottom right-hand corner. Then go to settings. You can turn notifications on and off from here. To subscribe to your daughter's year level and cocurricular, click on 'Subscriptions' and choose the relevant information you wish to receive. This will then ensure you receive the right communications for your child's year group and the activities they are involved in.
Both of these Apps will require you to login using your St Hilda’s issued username and password (e.g, 1234@sthildas.wa.edu.au). If you have any issues with the SEQTA Engage App or School App, please contact our IT Helpdesk on 92854295 or helpdesk@sthildas.wa.edu.au. New families will receive their login details in mid-January.
Newsletter The newsletter will provide a wrap-up of Junior School and Senior School activities and include all year-level notices that are on the App, as well as stories and photos from school activities. The newsletter is available via the School App. |
Senior School Parent Handbook
The Senior School Parent Handbook is an A-Z of relevant information for parents about the school, plus year specific information.

Transport
The Fremantle Traffic Bridge will close to all traffic on 1 February 2026 for up to 12 months. This closure may impact your daughter’s commute to school.
For families residing in the southern suburbs, please ensure you check the latest information on updated bus routes, additional Transperth services, and train information on our Transport page. |
